Review: Baiser Volé perfume by Cartier

I was looking for a perfume that smells of lilies and I stumbled upon this one online, because it's lockdown.

The marketing and the online reviews were so tempting that I ordered it without testing.

The packaging looks pretty, and you open it like a classic zippo lighter, which I personally think is an interesting choice for something that is supposed to smell fresh, like lilies. However, only very classy people still use these antique lighters, so I guess this perfume is supposed to be for classy people. Fine.

My first impression is that the scent is very sofisticated and light, a bit like an exotic garden. I know lilies well, my garden is full of French lilies and it is my favorite flower for indoor bouquets as well because I just adore warm, honey-like, exotic, sultry scents, like monoi, tonka bean, vanilla, rose, lily. Lily has a very specific fragrance that cannot be mistaken with anything else. If you have had a bouquet of quality lilies in your room, you know what I mean, it's heaven! It's honey, rose and vanilla combined.

If no one had told me this was a perfume marketed towards lilies, I wouldn't have guessed it either. It is a lovely floral scent, but not close to lilies. It's romantic, warm, sultry, like a Spring garden wet after rain. On top of the floral notes I also get notes of a hard candy, like cape violet. That is delicious! It smells like how that sour, lemony, rose violet candy tastes.

I also get a velvety, silky scent from it, like what Dove kashmir shower gel smells like. Wait. The Dove shower gel smells exactly like the Thermes scrub with white lilies... Did... Did Cartier mix up water lillies with... French lilies? No way, you have to have a retarded marketeer for that and a fraudulant business, basically, and for a brand like Cartier I don't really expect that. But it wouldn't be the first that perfume designers have no idea what the flowers in their products actually smell like. Some perfumes claim to smell like orchid, while they don't even come close.

But tonight I was laying in bed and the perfume must have been on my arm still because suddenly... I thought there was a bouquet of lilies in my room... It... it was the perfume! I could instantly visualise the orangey, greasy nectar, and the brown bars on them. It was that exact thick, luscious, sexy, powdery, exotic, floral scent, but subtle. It was 100% lily though. The thought that one would have to come quite close to my skin to delicately smell it and realise I smell of divine lilies was exactly quite exhilirating.

So now I actually do love this perfume. I wish they made a hair perfume as well. And I need to buy a bouquet of lillies asap...
