Chanel Spring/Summer 2011 Couture Show

I don't know if it's the "Black Swan" effect but i know this show took me to the world of the "Swan lake" or any other ballet show. Actually, it was so easy to see the Black queen and the white one on the catwalk: Stella Tennant played the black wearing a multicolored sequins dress and Freja played the white wearing the   extravagant white, fully embroidered in crystal stones coat-dress.

Lagerfeld brought the leggings back and paired them with flat shoes worn with chiffon tunics, dresses, suits and skirts in grey and pink, colors of one portrait of Coco Chanel painted in the 20s by Marie Laurencin." In 1923, she designed Les Biches, a ballet commissioned by Diaghilev with a scenario by Cocteau. Chanel was designing Le Train Bleu for the ballet impresario at the same time. She asked Laurencin to paint her. The languor and sweetness of the portrait that came from the sitting weren't pleasing to Chanel, but Lagerfeld seized on those qualities to reinterpret her ethos in a way that was paradoxically provocative and modest. The pink bouclé suit, the drop-waist dress, the sugary, rough-edged tweeds were fragile where Chanel herself was steely."

10 million beads were used in the collection, I bet if any other designer would use this amount of beading you would be blinded by the shine of his clothes. What Karl Lagerfeld presented was a light collection or better say a collection of light, " I was sick of all those Eiffel Towers, sick of all those violent colors" he said. The first 3 looks were embroidered in spiderwebs and at first sight, one may think it is just the fabric. Lagerfeld is the master when it comes to tailoring and details and he knows how to make wearable clothes. This couture show was so contemporary that any fan of Chanel can find something to buy and wear from this collection. 10 million stones and still effortless and easy and actually, in this couture show, Karl presented denim pants paired with a pale pink double breasted tweed jacket and a black chiffon scarf tied around the hips as a sash and in another look, a model wore the same pants with grey tweed skirt suit. The down to earth collection didn't miss the romanticism nor the luxury of couture. Karl said after the show " the structure of  almost every piece is made pearl by pearl, thread by thread " and that's what makes Chanel the dream of every girl.
